Serama Flock
Serama Flock
The American Serama is a variant of the traditional Ayam Serama from Malaysia. While considered to be extreme like their Malaysian counterparts they are short and stockier, typical to the apple body structure. They can also be labeled as; slim, ball, and dragon (the most extreme) body types. The world's smallest chicken does not know its size. They stand in an upright proud posture, with their heads held back behind the breast. Their wings should almost touch the ground in a vertical position with their muscular shoulders set high.
They have a short back that seems to disappear when on alert. While many assume their awkward posture is caused by genetic deformity or extreme training, they naturally assume this position giving a clear image of a “fearless warrior”.
The Serama is known to “not breed true” to its parental genes. Meaning that despite recent attempts to standardize the breed, their gene pool allows for over 2500 color combinations and a hatch batch can throw any of the 4 different size categories. Their friendly loving disposition makes for a wonderful addition to any family. Due to their small size it is common to find Seramas being kept indoors or in a caged habitat.
They are prolific foragers and are very active darting and bouncing around as they play and explore. A dry and entertaining run and coop allow these birds to be truly appreciated and enjoyed. While many breeders will cull the less than desirable specimens from their hatches. We believe all chicks deserve a chance to shine, and is why we are developing our companion breeds alongside our American Seramas.
